Are your estimates/quotes for work free of charge?
In most cases, we are more than happy to come to your buidling, office or place of work and go through your requirements with you, before providing you with a free of charge quote for the work. Although our head office is located in Benfleet, Essex, we cover a wide area. What is Part P? Do you meet the criteria?
As of 1 January 2005, it is a legal requirement for all work on fixed electrical installations in homes and buildings to comply with relevant standards. The relevant UK standard is BS 7671:2018, Requirements for electrical installations (The IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition). BS 7671 covers requirements for design, installation, inspection, testing, verification and certification of electrical installations. This is Part P.
Part P states that anyone carrying out electrical installation work in a home must make sure that the work is designed and installed to protect people from fire and electric shocks.
Part P applies to any changes made to existing installations, including any parts that have been rewired. In April 2013 further changes were introduced.
Part P applies to all electrical work in dwellings, whether carried out by professionals or DIYers. Some DIY work will require the submission of a building notice to the local authority and the payment of a building control fee.
